Polyfill

I assume that by "polyfill" stuffing in a cabinet, you are referring to the material you get to stuff into pillows from a fabric store...

If not, then what exactly is polyfill and where do you get it???

How much do you use???...Do you pack in it hard with just barely enough room for the speaker...

Or, is it loosly packed, just sort of taking up the space that the air now occupies???

Thanx

Steve

Yes.

standard rule-of-thumb is 1lb/cu. ft...

I've seen it stapled to the sides of the enclosure, works well for keeping it under control.

Stapling it to the side worries me a bit. All that vibration and the force of the magnet pulling at the staples; it seems like it will eventually come lose and then you'll have staples stuck to your speaker and polyfill flopping around inside the box.

and the force of the magnet pulling at the staples.
Thats the funniest thing I've read in a while and I'm not easilly intertained. Unless your magnet can pull 40-60 pounds of magnetic force a staple will not remove from the box by Magnetic force. :thumbsup

If water can carve rocks over time, why is it so absurd to think that 500W+ of power and a little magnetic pull _may_ cause a staple to wiggle free over time? Pressure over time can do amazing things. Don't be so quick to mock me for having the foresight to consider this as a _possible_ problem.

Yes the VIBRATIONS from the woofer will over time "a long time" wiggle the staple out. Say maybe 40 years. But not by any means of magnetic force. Dude you're startin a pretty stupid argument here. Who cares if the staple will come out in 40 years? any one bump the same box or sub for that long. Just let it go dude. :thumbsdow

Wow, you're fairly worthless but I still feel the need to clairify.

If you actually read my first post, I was talking about the vibrations and the magnetic force combined. Obviously the vibration is the larger factor.

I was not declaring that it was probable, I was suggesting that it was possible and I was actually just looking for some feedback on it because I was thinking of stapling the polyfill myself.

Someone should take the "Senior VIP Member" tags off your account. For you to come into the Subwoofer forum, which is declaired to be a newbie forum, and mock someone for suggesting something is immature. I hope you spent your other 192 posts in a more constructive manner.

Dude settle down. And for the Senior VIP Member thing. You can change it to whatever you want in the user control panel. For example mine is Power Acoustik Punk. A little piece of advice, don't be a smart a$$ arround here otherwise people will put you in your place. With that being said:

Go ahead and staple the polyfil in your box, i've done it and not have staples come lose. But don't do it if your box is ported, only do this in a sealed enclosure.

If you use an 'industrial' staple gun and drive a few staples into your box to hold the polyfill down, chances are you'll be more than fine. I have done this with my Shiva's, and it's still down at the bottom and on the sides of the box where it's supposed to be.

I've yet to hear anyone have their polyfill pulled up due to vibration or magnetic force.

We know. The whole forum is considered to be a 'newbie' forum. We do our best to keep it fairly clean. Due to extremely limited moderation options, it's pretty tough.

ss3079, thanks for the response. I'm going ahead with the staples //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm just now trying to think of other ways to connect it without having to worry about it possibly pulling off ... I doubt it will, like I said I've never seen anyone have that problem (I don't think that half of these people even secure it) ... but it's always good to know an alternative. I'm going to wind up connecting it to fiberglass ... somehow, fiberglass the edges of it on there maybe.

What did you think my response was??? I told you magnetic force will not remove the staples.

Then I said "Yes the VIBRATIONS from the woofer will over time "a long time" wiggle the staple out. Say maybe 40 years".

I answered your question. Just because you take something on a forum offensivelly I should not have to lick your nut sack to make you happy. Stop being a girl. Other people said the same thing I did staples are ok. nuff said.

although staples will work fine, you can use screws and washers.
That sounds like a great idea. It will probably hold it in place better than the staples because of the surface area of the washers. I think I'll give that a shot.

Thanks!
