Polyfill: waste of time, or usefull and actually works?

While i wait for my new box to be built, i was considering putting polyfill in my current enclosure, since i can tell the sub is being suffocated for air. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif Would stuffing some polyfill do anything at all, or would it just be stupid and a waste of time?

I've used it before with good results. Seemed to take the "peakyness" outta some really small sealed boxes I've squeezed in.

You can use it in a ported box if you can keep it from blowing out the port, some builders use blankets of it glued to the walls.

You can get polyfill real cheap if you go to a hobby or discount store and head back to the pillows, some of them is 100% Polyfill.. that's what I always do.

Some experts suggest just filling the box loosely with it.. thats how I do it.

The difference itself between a straight sealed and polyfilled sealed is most definitely noticable. The first tiny bit will take the peakiness out of a small sealed box, and after that it'll help with the low end. At least that's my experience. The stuff is very inexpensive, so it's not like you're out much if you don't like the given effect.

Its also probably not good running it how i am right now, its running extremely inneficiently, and even though it doesn't get loud due to the tiny *** box, you can tell its being pushed very very hard.

Very small sealed boxes will have a very high Q, giving them a "peaky" characteristic. Play around with frequency response graphs in WinISD or any other box building software and you'll see it for yourself.
