Poly fill

What does polyfill or cotton (the stuff inside of pillows) do to a subwoofer that is in a sealed box. I heard some time ago that it tricks the sub to make it think it's in a bigger box. Is this true or just rumor?

Depends on who you ask. I always use it in sealed boxes, but it's more out of habit than anything else...

I bought a bunch for my deadening project, was planning to put it under panels and stuff before I figured out what I was doing and bought some mass loaded vinyl. I might still stuff it somewhere just to have something to do with it, can't hurt I guess.

I almost always use it in my sealed boxes too. About a 1/2 pound per cubic foot is recomended.
