Plexiglass?

Originally posted by TRAVIESO What is the difference between plexiglass, Lexan, and crystallite.

Im using it for an amp rack.
I think they are just different brand names...get whatever is cheaper...it's pretty much all the same for an amp rack.

lexan is a layer type acryllic and plexiglas is a molded plastic ..... lexan is harder and stronger and will give a higher gloss but will set you back more $$$$. plexiglass is fine for a amprack just make sure you get like 3/8" and pre-drill...... just a tip cut with paper on and drill with paper on, drill slow and use oil or lubricant for best results.....

want a cool look use a chisel on the edges and hide a blue neon tube under amp when done the plexi will look like chipped ice.

good luck

its the brand but i guess they have different characteristics...kind of like the difference between sherwan williams and benjamin moore paint. well..thats the best analogy i could think of this late at night.

Im thinkin of going to my local place where they sell plexi and buying the next to thinest stuff they have and gettin some longer screws for the bottom plate of my amp and replacing the bottom with a sheet of plexi and oh I just had a thought, wouldnt it be neat to have an amp with a clear bottom on top of an amp rack that is also plexi sittin about 8 or so inches above a mirror with the view the amp internals facing you. Im sure its been done before but I think im gonna try it over the summer when I get a job.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

well...i think jensen has a line of amps like that...i bet other manufacturers do too.

not exactly the highest of quality...

but if you do it to your own amp, im sure thats the quickest way to void any warranty on it.
