I found a pic of something I'd like to do:

This is asner's amp (that he recently sold). I was actually thinking of doing this to my amps since I'm doing a false floor. I'm curious if anyone's done this to a "slash" series JL amp? I'll probably give them a call tomorrow, but in the meantime was looking for opinions/suggestions here. If possible, I'd like to even throw an LED or something in there to light up the guts a little more when they're in the floor.

The removal of the heatsink could cause cooling problems considering the JL Audio 1000/1 amplifier doesn't have internal cooling fans. Aluminum has cooling properties while plexiglas doesn't.

I'm not worried about what he did. The pic was for an idea of what I was talking about (unless plexi amp cover was too hard to understand, lol).

ss, I forgot about JL not using fans, but I do plan on having my amps in a "channel". The walls will be about 1.5" from the heatsinks, that way the 2 fans I use will have air forced by the heatsinks, cooling them off quicker. Still think it's a bad idea? Surely someone has taken the lid off this thing?

I'd give it a go myself, but it's out on warranty...hopefully I'll get it back within a week or so.

The belly of the JL amps is not the heatsink, the black wrinkle finish fins opposite the wiring connections is. As long as you have adequate air circulation around that part of the amp, you should be fine.

Looking at the 1000/1 on ampguts, the only problem I can see would be attaching the plexi to the bottom. The normal bottom plate looks to screw into the endplate of the amp.

Right, which is why I plan on having the amp set in a channel that forces air past the heatsink.

I see what you're saying about connecting plexi to it...may be harder than I thought.

Here's my two amps:

In that case, go for it. My challenge to you is if you can incorporate the OEM logos onto the plexiglas //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif Meaning the center "JL Audio logo" dead center and the "1000/1" logo in the lower right //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Lol, I doubt I can do that. I'm only even about to learn how to use a router this weekend...

I was going to use a white LED to light up the insides, but I may use blue.

Will it be bad for the amps to be mounted upside down???

If I can get good images of the logos you want I can cut them in plexy for you. I have the big "JL logo" and an "Ahead of the curve" logo.

Mounting upside down is fine.
