Please help with amp Jl audio 500/1 started smoking

I have a jl audio 500/1 thats hooked up to 2 12inch alpin type r's .. I just had the system for a day and the amp was working fine then the bass started missing and then it stopped then i saw a little smoke come from the amp. When i have the volume on 4 it will hit the subs but when i turn it up the subs dont work at all. It has to be the amp cause the subs didn't blow .. It did stop smoking just did a little and the power on the amp is still on. is my amp fried?? well if these are the new type r's then you are wayy underpowering them with only a 500/1..as for the smoking did you set your gains right and the bass boost down..the subs arent both dual 4ohm are they?

that amp is only stable at 1.5-4ohms.

you have it at 1ohm...

even after imp rise, that's barely pushin it.

you're pushin that amp too hard.

IM not sure i had a proffesional wire it so i hope they did it right. Whats wierd is if i have the volume on 4 or below the subs hit so that must mean the amp is still working right??? what could be wrong?? The power still works on the amp and its green. if you had it installed take it back and get them to fix it if you feel it was the install or the way they tuned it...duh!!!

I bought the amp from ebay so i doubt they would care. I will go back to them though. I hope this amp can be ressurcected but i dunno

I just found out the subs are 4ohms and they hooked the amp up on 1 ohm. Could this have blew it??? This guy was so confident in the install ****. I will raise hell if he did wire it wrong. What should I do guys??

if you paid a shop for the install....raise hell....they effed it up.

This drives me crazy because i already got ripped off on ebay for a 12 w7 and jl audio 1000 and had to downgrade to a 500 now I will have to get an xplode amp. This is pissing me off. Can the shop really be at fault they do not sale quality amps which means they do not sell the jl audio amp they installed for me. grr

1) for the lof of god dont get an Xplod amp.

2) yes they can be held responsible. they were paid to professionally and competantly install a piece of car audio equiptment. regardless of if said equptment was bought from them or not they should be able to put it in without wiring it for an impedance outside of its mfgr stated tolerance. If they dont want to be responsible for equiptment they didnt sell there, they shouldnt be willing to install equiptment that wasnt purchased through them.

3) go in and raise hell, make the refund you the price of the install and replace your amp free of charge. they are the ones that destroyed it, they are the ones that replaced it. Just like if you let a buddy borrow a hoodie and fell in the fire and burned the **** thing up he should buy you a new one.

4) scout out the for sale section here for a good deal on waaaaay better amps than sony for some quality used equiptment.
