Please help to understand this

My GF wants to keep her factory radio in her 03 civic.

I know that all I have to do is connect speaker wires to the LOC then run RCA from the LOC to the amp. well my question is...how will the amp be turned on? will I have to run a remote wire to the amp? Does the factory radio has a remote wire?

you still need to run a remote wire. you can use the power antenna wire.

is this located at tghe back of the factory radio? or would I need to tap into the wire via whereever the wire goes to the antenna?

get a multimeter and find one.

most often they can be located under the driver side knee bolster (panel above your knees) that goes to the back side of your ignition. should be a bundle of nice thick wires, usually taped with black stuff.

get your multimeter on DC volts, and find a wire that is 12~14v when the car is on, and 0v when the car is off.

cut the shieth of that wire *DO NOT CUT IT IN HALF, ONLY STRIP SOME OF THE RUBBER OFF WITH A RAZOR*. take a pair of strippers and cut thru the shield and wiggle them a bit. then move the strippers like .5" down and cut thru the shield again, and then take the razor and trim one edge of the shield from each cut your made with the strippers and then peel the shield off with your finger.

then wrap your wire around it (go buy one of those little fuse holders like this http://www.bernsonev.com/images/fev-fuseholder.jpg ) and then tape it off. then run your wire to your amps and install your fuse //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

reason is because its your ignition wire. if you cut it your car wont start. so just wrap your fuse on there (or any other kind of fuse you wanna use) and then your all set //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Well if its a power antennae wire that only comes on when the AM/FM radio is on then that might be useless, I don't know. Try t-tapping or splicing into the Accessory wire at the ignition harness and fuse it and run that wire as remote.

The only problem with that is if the car is on and the radio is turned off then the amp will still be on and will go nuts if the radio is off. You could put a switch in series with that wire so you can control it.

Why would you want the amp to come on without the radio on? thats how it works for aftermarket HUs.

This is crazy....I will try and convince her to get a radio instead. too much hassle.
