Ported adds ~2-3dbs, which is VERY nice to have in an open-air build such as a boat. My boat is LOUD and clean. I use all Hifonics Series VII amps. And the Kicker can speakers are excellent. I've run Polk and JL towers also, the Kickers sound better and cost less, lol.

The type r is a d2. I have a friend with a 24' supra that is set up really similar to yours...very loud and clear! Should I just go with a good proven ported design then?
