I have picked the best SQ units that I know that are MP3 compatable:

Pioneer 880PRS

Eclipse CDA7000

Kenwood 25th Anniversary XXV-01D

Kenwood KDC-X889 or X890

Clarion DXZ-865MP

Are these it or is there anything else....besides Naka's ofcourse, which is out of my price range.

What's the difference with X890 and XXV-01D internal wise, besides the USB thing on the X890

i wouldnt get the x890 b/c it doesnt have any bass controls
System Q-EX Sound Control: Six EQ curves are preset into memory, allowing you to recall the best preset EQ curve for different types of music: Rock, Pops, Easy, Top 40, Jazz, and Natural. In addition, you may store your own settings under the "User Memory" EQ curve. Each preset has its own bass center frequency, bass level, bass Q factor, bass extension, middle center frequency, middle level, middle Q factor, treble center frequency, and treble level settings. You may adjust the bass center frequency (40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 100, 120 or 150Hz), bass level (-8 to +8), bass Q factor (1.00, 1.25, 1.50 or 2.00), bass extension (On or Off), middle center frequency (0.5, 1.0, 1.5 or 2.0kHz), middle level (-8 to +8), middle Q factor (1.0 or 2.0), treble center frequency (10.0, 12.5, 15.0 or 17.5kHz), and treble level (-8 to +8). The System Q EX can be turned off in the menu, still allowing you to adjust the bass, middle and treble levels only.

Subwoofer Preamp Output: The KDC-X890 is equipped with a pair of subwoofer preamp outputs. The subwoofer outputs can easily be turned on/off. When the subwoofer output is turned on, you can adjust the volume (-15 to +15 in increments of 2), set the low pass filter cutoff (50Hz, 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, or Through), and the phase (normal, reverse).

System E's+: In addition to System Q Sound Control, the KDC-X890 features the System E's+ crossover system for the speaker and preamp outputs. You can make the following adjustments:

  • Front High Pass Filter: 40Hz, 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, 150Hz, 180Hz, 220Hz, or Through (no filter)
  • Rear High Pass Filter: 40Hz, 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, 150Hz, 180Hz, 220Hz or Through (no filter)
  • Low Pass Filter: 50Hz, 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz or Through (no filter)

Taken directly off of the Crutchfield page breaking down the specifics on the KDC-X890. Why is it that you think it has no bass controls?!?

cd7000....then i would be jealous of you.
and that is what we all aspire to.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I've done well with kenwood.. I've had 3 KW HU's in a row and never had probs... I'd love to try something else but I just keep ending up with Kenwood HU's...

I switched head units last week from and Alpine 9847 to a Kenwood KDC-X889 and all I can say is WOW!!

Check out 6thavenue.com for it .... I paid $218 for the unit and 6 cents for shipping and it was delivered in a little over a week.

The options for tuning your system are almost limitless ... and I am still playing with mine to fine tune it.

One thing I have found though is that if you use a ripped cd with a paper label the playback gets screwed up and the disc can get stuck in the unit. I have ditched all my old labelled discs and just write the name on it now, problem solved.

the 889/890 doesnt have traditional bass, treble mid controls

the 789/790 does ( I own both models)

The 889/890 is all set by EQ,a bit of a PITA imo,esp while driving

I prefer the 789 over the 889 for that exact reason.....

What they should have done is had the 889/890 and flagship models is had a

pro mode and a reg mode, for peeps who dont wanna mess with EQ and would rather have traditional controls

all the while prefer to own the top of the line units - such as myself

The System Q EX can be turned off in the menu, still allowing you to adjust the bass, middle and treble levels only. I have never found this on my 889,maybe I need to read the directions again
