a 160 or 180 shouldn't hurt the factory wiring. why? because the car is only going to draw what's needed....but i would definitely upgrade the wire from ur alternator to ur battery. especially with the system...teh battery is going to pulling all the current it can....

and i'm sure u have at least a 4' piece of 4 guage lying around...that' would suffice for now...

and trig is right..upgrading ur battery at the same time will do nothing but help. with a new alt and new batt, ur dimming should be a thing of the past...and i'd get the 180 if ur not going for the 200....

if i did wanna upgrade the battery to alt wire, what exactly do i need to do? where do i find the ends to even attach the wire to the battery/alt?

You need to be a bit more self sufficient. Search for ring connectors.

You make it seem like upgrading the wiring is difficult to do. You are not REPLACING the factory wiring, you just need to add a new wire to it. Nothing more than unbolt a couple things and throw down a wire... 30 minutes tops.

whatever you do DO NOT buy from mralternator.com....i had a '200 amp' one i bought from there...worked great in my car for a couple months, then it burnt out and made my battery explode (aka leak everywhere). took it in to get the stock one thrown back in and they took the 200 amp one apart and it turns out it was made from shitty parts. go with excessive....thats what i have now.
