My stock alternator took a crap on me, and since i need a new alternator, i figured i should get a high output one, since i was experiencing heavy voltage drops and dimming before. I know about http://www.mralternator.com, but they are out of stock, and unfortunately waiting 2 weeks is not an option for me. What other sites are good for high output alts? Thanks alot!!!!

mean-green.com excessiveamperage.com

thanks, i talked to nathan at excessive and his price sounds good. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif If i get a 160 amp (running a nine.1 and nine.2 ) would that be adequate? My stock one was 105 and that one was garbage. Also, i know big 3 will help with dimming, but for the sake of not damaging anything, do i have to change anything else in my car, or just directly bolt on the altenator?

Having never used the Nine.1/.2, what are the fuse rating on both amps? I would assume running those two amps you are going to need something in the 200amp range for an alt. But what fuses do those amps have?

Remember, its better to get it all right the first time; than to spend more money correcting the problem.

Nine 1 - 4 30 amp fuses

Nine 2 - 2 25 amp fuse

I'm running a Orion 1200d and 4004 and get zero dimming on a stock alt. I have not done the Big3. But I purchased a Optima Red Top. Have you even upgraded your battery yet?

Well, my car is currently completely dead becuase my stock alternator broke (old *** stock one) so this isn't a question of upgrading for performance. I need a new alternator for my car to run, and i figured i might as well get a high output one now. No, stock battery.

So the amps alone are capable of pulling up to 170 amps. I would get a 220 or so just to be safe...

And tRig, whats your stock alt put out? With an SUV it must be more than his stock 105, correct?

u think 160 would be a waste then? Stock battery too btw. Im really not doing this for the stereo btw, i need a new alt regardless because my car is dead, i just want one that will handle my stereo a little better than the stock did.

That's what I'm getting at. Why do you think you had voltage drops. Why do you think the alt went out. You did nothing to protect the electrical system. I'm going to assume you are not even running 1/0 guage power/ground wire.

Even if you do buy a larger amp, get a battery and do things right the first time.

the stereo did not kill it. About a year ago (when i had only a 250 watt sub amp) it started making rattling noises. I stupidly didn't get it fixed. The system had nothing to do with it dying.

If you had dimming problems, then yes it did play a part in killing your altenator. You can not say it didnt have anything to do with it, because it was apparently putting a strain on the altenator. It might not have been the only cause, but it helped it die sooner...
