Please Help AMP Smoking

I put new Infinity components in front and new Infinity 2 ways in the back and purchased a new Rockford fosgate 4 channel Punch 8004 4X100 rms.

I hooked up everything same as my cheap Formula 4 channel amp which is working fine but not as much power as the new amp

First time before I even plugged in the Per Out connectors I heard a POP and smoke came out, RF replaced some components on the rear channels.

I got it back and hooked it up yesterday and all seemed ok, set the rear crossover at 120 hz HP filter and the gain at zero. Plugged in the preout for the rear only, Set HU to 80% and started turning up the gain. About the time it just started to distort the amp started soking again and now there is only a whistle out of the rears.

Question, What is going on, The amp is 4 channels at 100 watt RMS and those rear speakers are 2 ohm at 55 watt RMS, could a high gain setting smoke the amp, shouldnt the fuse blow first or is the amp still bad, wouldnt RF test it under load before sending it back, There going to fix it again but am afraid to hook it up, Like I said I have a cheap flea market 4 channel 4X250 amp and its working fine, Just wanted more power with the new RF.

Any help please.

Thanks Biker

I already sent it back to Rockford Fosgate for warrenty repair now for the second time, dont want to open it and void the warrenty, Just discourged because now I have over 3 weeks into waiting on this **** AMP.

The first mistake I made was buying it on Ebay from a non authorized dealer and they wouldnt help me so I was faced with paying RF for the repair the first time, this time they say the will fix it again for free.

Thanks Biker

At least there fixing it again for free. Why are you trying to use an amp that puts out 200watts x 4channels at 2ohms, but yet your speakers are 55watts rms. It could work if you kept the gain down really low, but yet your asking if a high gain setting can smoke the amp. Maybe you should just be happy you haven't toasted your speakers yet. If you try it again make sure to set the gains properly.

The reason I got that amp is because the front components will take the power, and thats exactly right, I am aware how to set the gains to protect the rear speakers, But its not the speakers am woried about its all that smoke comeing out of the amp thats got me all ****** up.

So from what I have read I still need to know one thing from someone that knows amp's please. IF I turn up the gain to high to these speakers should this powerfull amp blow a fuse or smoke?

Thanks Biker

if you turn the gains up, you'll blow your speakers and possibly your amp. fuses are only to protect the equipment from power surges, not maxxing out your amp and frying it. it could smoke. it might not. it could go into protect mode if your amp has that and it could keep your amp from frying itself iirc.

Found the problem, I thought that my speakers were 4 ohms and rated at 55W RMS and my amp being 100W RMS at 4 ohms. BUT! the speakers are 2 Ohms so that makes my amp connected 200W RMS at 2 Ohms, So when I turned the gain up about 3/4 , Will you can guess what happened next.

Went ahead and purchased some 4 ohm 100W rms speakers and had the amp repaired so now its all good. And the only thing still Smoking is Me......

I've never had an amp crap out on me, even will the HU on blast and the amp gain

kicked fully the only thing that happens is the speakers distort off their as$ but

never release the magic smoke
