Apologize in advance for such a novice question but couldn't find the answers I was looking for with the search function. Can someone explain the 2 types of outputs from a HU? I think it's the terminology that's confusing me. This is what I think I know:

1. Preamp output = low level = line level?

- this can be used directly into an amplifier.

2. High level = speaker level?

- this signal needs to be converted with a line output converter then plugged into an amplifier.

TIA

Don't worry about the "level" of your question here. You could ask what the term "speaker" means here and people will answer you with dignity. I don't understand it, but I hope they keep it up:D .

I don't exactly know the answer to your question(its really not that novice), because I can't understand what your asking. The preamp output has to do with the voltage sent to the amp; 2V, 4V, 5V, etc. As a general rule the higher the voltage the cleaner the amp plays and the less hard it needs to work to produce sound. Which also decreases the heat in which the amp puts out.

You're clear as a bell.

Isn't borborygmi the medical name for the grumbling your stomach makes when you eat too many tacos?

And yep, you have a handle on HU outputs.
