Please comment on this sound system

Front Stage: Infinity kappa 60.5 component powered by US Acoustics USX2080

Rear Fill: Stock speakers powered by HU

Sub: 10" sub powered by another bridged US Acoustics USX2080 in a sealed enclosure.

I have not decided on a sub yet, I'm leaning towards JL Audio. I'll probably let the shop pick the best one given the amount of room available and my budget.

I want a nice clean and crisp sounding system, but I also like it to be able to play loud and give good amounts of bass when I'm in the mood for that.

Any comments will be appreaciated.

Since you're going with amped infinities in the front you may want to just disconnect the rear speakers if you do not plan to replace them. You should get better sound quality that way.

I didn't know Iwould be better off with no rear fill since they're not amped, thanks for letting me know.

Do you think this setup will sound fairly good? Component wise is very affortable for me.

Inifinities are great speakers. Lots of crisp highs. I personally love the highs, other people may feel it gives them a headache. Listen to them at your local authorized shop. US Acoustics makes a decent amp. Not sure what 10 you have, but it sounds like you'll have yourself a nice setup when you're done.

And yes, disconnect your rear speakers before you replace them. Listen to it for a week without them. If you feel you liked it better with rears, hook them back up and listen for a while. I doubt you would want a low quality rear speaker messing up your good sounding system. Having no rear speakers is not a bad thing at all either. Many audiophiles love not having rear speakers to set up a sound stage. You can't tell where good bass is coming from.. and having your compenent set up front will give you a sound stage (like a concert) with bass bumping.

You won't have a true stereo setup without the rear speakers, but you will probably like it better without them.

My only concern is whether the one 10 will be enough? What ten is it? What car will it be in (hatch, trunk, sedan, compact)? Will it be ported or sealed?

First off thanks for the feedback!

I do not have the sub picked out yet, I thought I'll let the shop decide what works best in my car with the space I have. It's a Nissan 350Z, which is a 2 seat hatchback. I have very little trunk space, this is my only car and need all the space I have. There is a compartment right behind the driver's seat for the stock BOSE sub (which I don't have). This space is empty now and is where I'm planning to put the sub using a factory BOSE grill to keep it looking stock. Some people have been able to sweeze .8 - 1.2 cu. ft. in this space, depending how elaborate they get with the enclosure or if they go infinite baffle. I would like to put a simple square sealed box in there, hopefully with around .8 cu .ft. I've heard this is too close to the passenger for optinal sound, that it should be in the far back of the car facing up or backwards. But others with the same car have used this space and are pleased with the sound.

If you have any suggestions about what sub can work in this setup at a good price, please let me know! I'm open to other options.

As for subs, check out the Image Dynamics IDQ, a great SQ driver that was designed for small enclosures.

Pioneer makes great subs, and they are under $100.

If you want something a little more flashy and right at the price limit ($119 shipped) grab an Audiobahn ALUM10Q from http://www.ikesound.com . The dual 6Ohm coils will give you a final 3Ohm load, which ill let you safely get a little more power out of the bridged 2080

I have chosen the Kicker RS6 over the Infinity Kappas. I ordered the speakers and the amps, but I'm still undecided on the sub. It should get just under 300 wrms from the bridged USX2080.

What Pioneer model has good SQ and decent SPL? The Premier line?

How is the ID line (not IDQ) from image dynamics ($110)? The new eD Ks are not out yet, so I'm not considering them (sounds perfect for what I need though).

Any other suggestions for a good SQ 10" sub around $100-$120? I've done searches, but all seemed to be on the higher end.

well Jmac (a respetable member from here) like the Premiers so they must have good sq... also for your budget you must look for the alpine Type-R the 12 is going for $115 on ikesound.com

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not familiar wit Type Rs and Pioneer Premier and never really consider them. May need to do some research on these.

Which one would work best for me? (more SQ then SPL, ~300watt in a small sealed box)

Any other suggestions appreciated.

Hey, I have a Pioneer Premier TS-W1241C (12") that I got from Ikesound for about $80 after shipping on ebay, which is the second highest model Pioneer made last year (I don't know anything about this year's stuff). Jmac recommended it after I said pretty much the same things as you: small box, SQ over SPL, and around $100. Like Mamey said, they are a great SQ driver, and sound great inside the car. I have mine in a 1 cu. ft. sealed box and it sounds wonderful. There is a high amount of bass in the car, but the sound stays there, it doesn't vibrate so all the cars around you can hear it. I am giving it about 300 RMS, which is what you said you would be giving a 10", and the Premier 10" takes 400 RMS, so I assume yours would be more efficient. 300 watts really powers the sub well. I've only heard Type-R's in stores like Good Guys, but they seem to have a little more SPL than the Premiers. SQ wise, I'd say they were pretty close, but the Type-R might win there, too. Take into consideration, however, that the Type-R is usually about $30 more on average, even on ebay. Like I said, my Premier 12" was only $80 including shipping brand new, and ebay auctions for new Type-R's seem to end at about $110-$120. The 10" Premiers will do wonderful in the airspace that you have available and they are very affordable. I think that you will be happy with both of these woofers, and either way you go, the system will sound great.

I'm pretty close to finally choosing a sub. The only thing keeping me from getting the Pioneer is that I saw a 10" Kicker CompVR can be had for around $15 more. It would match with my Kicker comps, I don't know if that really matters. Is the CompVR more for SPL then SQ? I want the opposite. How does it compare to the the Pioneer?

These are my last two choices, please help me pick!!

you want sound quality, get the premiers for crying out loud. the guys are telling you the truth. you will not be dissapointed with the pioneers. my brother had two tens. they sounded fine. im not a sound quality guy. the bass was tight, but not much spl. he only had a rockford punch 200a4 bridged ( a little over 100 watts per speaker). theyre only 80 bucks. just get the pioneer.

i havent heard the comp vr's sealed. they were loud ported (2 12's with 250 watts per).

ive heard my friend's comp vr 12's in a tiny seald box with a 300w cadence amp in teh bath of a stang(gt) he said he hit 155db... f*cking loud...
