Placement Desicions...

I will soon be working on my friend's hatchback, and I'm wondering how I should place his subs, rear firing, front firing, upward firing, down firing? What would be good for SPL or SQ? I'm not sure what he wants right now, but I would like to know how to place before hand.

Don't hatchbacks like subs up port up or is it subs up port back?

Up up, for SPL I think, but that wouldn't necesarilly help if he wanted SQ.

Well I have heard that for SQ in a trunk car you would want subs and port firing back but that may be hogwash for all I know.....my box sits in the backseat (it's secured folks so don't worry) becuase it not only sounds louder but better that way in my vehicle but also becuase I didn't want to waste the money on sound deadener for the trunk when I am getting a new car/SUV in a few months here...
