i just got a pioneer deh-p8500mp from someone on craigslist. and the bastard sold me a broken head unit. the problem is theres snapping or crackling coming from the speakers but no music unless i turn the thing all the way up but not as loud as it should be at full tilt. any ideas. i researched and found nothing related to me.

pioneer doesn't ****, the previous owner must have friend something.. possibly the internal amplifier has crapped out on you.. not sure, not too good with internals of decks.. but obviously not much you can do.. try hooking an amp to the deck and running speakers off of it?

Andrew

its on the front i pushed it with the power on which caused the head unit to turn off. when i turned it back on the problem wasnt fixed. i turned the head unit off then hit the reset same thing still no sound from the speaker. if this helps i have the head unit running of a 12 volt battery and i have one speaker to test each channel. with the volume turned all the way up only one set of wires or channel plays music (very faintly) the rest have no sound at all

sounds like the internal amp of the head unit is shot then, i once had a pioneer and the right channel played music very faintly as well at max volume the other channel was way louder, and it was the internal amp of the head unit that was shot, so time to get another head unit dude.

anyways i hooked up an amp to the preouts and all three sets worked. so does this mean the amp inside the headunit is done? or do the preouts run through the amp inside the head unit? if so then i still havnt found my problem right?
