Anyone else on here have this issue? I know others have had this issue from this: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=pioneer+avh+screen+freezing
I bought this unit a couple months after they came out so I've had it for a couple years with no problems what so ever. Recently, maybe November or December, we had a few cold days. I noticed on one of those, leaving work with the temperature in the high 30s, that the screen had frozen and none of the buttons or touchscreen worked. It still played music, but I couldn't adjust volume, menus, eject disk, etc.
I figured it was a flook, but I have been having that same problem regardless of temperature now (70+degrees and below). I called a Pioneer tech and he was no help other than saying I have a bad internal component, he didn't know which one, but I should send it in for repair.
Sometimes it works perfectly fine for hour + trips, but most of the time it freezes in less than a minute from once it's turned on regardless of whether or not the car is cranked or in the ACC. I've reset it numerous times and it has frozen on the start-up screen. If you turn the unit off and back on sometimes it works the second power on, other times it takes numerous attempts. What I am doing this weekend is installing a switch so I can cycle power while driving without having to turn my car off, open the driver door, and then restart the car.
I really love this unit when it works and the switch will be a simple and easy temporary fix, but what the hell could be causing this...an internal component? Is it worth (financially) sending to get repaired? I have my old Alpine deck I can use in the meantime, but should I start looking for a different unit or repair it? Any ideas for a DIY fix aside from the switch which isn't really a fix at all?
My old Alpine would do the same thing after having it installed for over a year now that I think about it which is why I bought this unit.... Is it possible that something in the wiring harness or car's electrical system could be causing this issue?
