You are right, AMD is not trash. They are just not near as good as Intel nowadays. It takes a quad core AMD to keep up with a midrange Intel C2D. I will stay with Intel, even though they are a bit more. Hell, even the E5200(73 bucks) is as good/better than most AMD dual cores, and it will overclock a lot more.
Both of my main pc's are Intel(e4300,e6600) and I will probably only build Intel for myself from now on so I agree, but AMD is a good choice for someone on a mega budget

I was an AMD fanboy and overclocker through the XP days until they started the stupid PR(performance ratings) instead of listing actual clock speeds. I thought that was a stupid move considering AMD was a budget minded option to Intel, but since most people on a budget were just average consumers the PR just confused and tricked them

In my example above the buyer doesnt game and certainly wont be overclocking so they needed no video card, but wanted a dual core and a decent amount of ram to be a little future proof

$350 for a pc that includes a 22" lcd is a decent deal, alrthough thats not what they are paying me for it;)

I would never pay more than $500 for a computer, but i'm also not a gamer.
The most expensive component(other than my 24" lcd) in my main pc is my 30gb SSD hard drive which was about $80.
My graphics card alone cost me 350. Ram was 120. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Then again, I can get the same ram now off newegg for 20 bucks. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

Have you seen the new Phenom II, pretty good little chip and a better overclocker than the Intel chips, can be taken to 4 GHz.

AMD was the leader when the dual cores came out, there dual core kicked the intial offerings from intels butt. And the AMD's over clock alot easier. Now the intels have the advantage, but AMD is far from a crappy product. I wish I had an intel chip now though so I could install my hackintosh alot easier

AMD was the leader from about when the original Athlon came out until the Core 2 came out, a good solid 4-5 years.

An e8400 can be taken farther than a Phenom II and I am sure it is on par if not better as far as performance goes. And that is a dual core.

Oh, here is my desk/pc. Not too great but a decent budget build.

Shitty camera phone for the loss.
