picking up better wifi

I have a pretty slow connection on my Dell inspiron 600m using its onboard wireless card, if I upgrade to a 108mbps PCMCIA card will that help pick up a better signal, as in more bars, or just increase the amount that I CAN receive?

The point of upgrading my wireless card is in attempt to hopefully pickup a better signal from my neighbors //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

don't think it will help much. the type of router and positioning of their router plays a role in this. if they don't have a good broadcast range you might not see much of an improvement.

for instance i have a linksys 2.4ghz wireless router located in my room in a corner. the distance from my router to the living room table is maybe 20-25ft. a laptop that sits in that general area gets a pretty weak signal of maybe 2-3bars. still fast enough though. though the closer the router is the laptop the faster.
