Picking new gear

I have around 500 to spend on a sub. I was pretty sure i was going to get an alpine type x. But it seems the big talk on this forum is companies i know nothing about like Digital Designs, Resonant Engineering, Adire Audio, FI, and others....

The RE XXX looks badass. Any thoughts?

The older XXX line was great, as far as I read. The new line is still up there, but nothing compared to the older earlier lines. We need to know what type of sound you want, and what type of power you got for it. If I were you, I'd look into the RE MT before I did the XXX if you want to be loud, and buy from RE, and XXX for more of a sound quality sub. FI Q for sound quality, and FI BTL for being loud. Digital Designs, well pretty much any sub if you want to be loud, I think it's either the 2500 series or the 3500 series is their "sound quality" driver that is the most musical out of their line up.

EDIT : Do NOT take my previous statements as facts. I have never had personal experience with the Brands that were mentioned, I have only read up, and heard some of them.

I am not sure what i want. I drive a 97 civic. I want SQ over SP. But of course i want SP too. Whats wrong with the XXX. and what do you recomend? Amp hasnt been purchased. Money is there

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the XXX, just saying that the older models are more wanted than the newer models. Let some other people with more experience with these brands have some say in it. I've only had the RE SR, which I had more than double it's rated power to it, and it got loud, and handled like a champ.

My DD 9510 ate alive a JLW7 13 at a local comp a month or so back...With less power mine was 4 dbs louder....mine hit lower and sounded better...mine was in a trunk and he had a suv...my opinion JL is overpriced junk in the same catagory as Audiobahn....in fact I can't stand Audiobahn's chrome covered crap but I'd run it in my ride before JL ......
