physical memory on computer?

ok so i have a brand new dell laptop and idk why but my physical memory is up to like 50% all the time! is this normal i thought its supposed to be alot lower and i think its why my computer isnt fast. anybody know how i can fix this?

Do a reload of the O/S and get rid of all of the crap that Dell puts on the computer.

It comes slow so that they can convince you to buy more memory and a faster processor.

They sell space on the computers in order to keep their prices down.

If it is under warranty you can either deal with it or load more memory.

If you reload a fresh copy of the O/S without all of the other stuff it will run like a whole different machine.

Good Luck.

No, you need a fresh install.

All retail companies do this kind of shit... first thing I would do with ANY retail PC is format and reload a clean copy of Winblows.

And I wouldn't use Vista, either. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif But these days it's increasingly difficult to find pre-fabs that will work with XP. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Exactly.

Vista is a memory hog. You have to have at least 2GB of ram to run vista. It will use 1GB by itself.

You can delete the programs but the damage is done. Fresh install is the only way to get all of your speed back.

That is completely illogical, by the time you have purchased the computer you have chose all the upgrades you will ever likely install on that computer, They include all that BS software because of subcontracts and other requirements. Plus believe it or not, some people actually like all that crap.

You DO NOT need to do a fresh install.

First off, boot in Admin mode, Run MSCONFIG and uncheck everything but your Anti-Virus software (which should be Free AVG //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif)

Then go to remove programs and remove anything that you do not want.

Reboot and run disk defrag.

Problem solved. And when you are done with that, buy a copy of XP and install a fresh copy wiping out Vista //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I should also state, if you have questions about MSCONFIG, BE SURE TO ASK. Most everything can be unchecked at start up. But there maybe a few things you do actually want to run in the back ground. If you do uncheck something you can always re-check it.

Also, be sure to check what programs you uninstall. There are a few things you should NOT uninstall, Windows related.

If you are unsure what something is in MSCONFIG, do a google search for the name of it. for example "ctfmon". However, you also have to watch what sites tell you to do. Some sites list the wrong info and want you to install their software.

Do a printscreen of you start up items, all of them, and post them here and we can hell you uncheck items. Same could be true for remove programs.

Oh, and as for Vista and memory, yes u should have 2gb but 1gb is fine for basic computing.

I remember reading somewhere that Vista either falsely reports memory usage so it can have it available or it uses as much memory that it can to help "speed" things up, or some shit like that. I do not remember exactly but a quick google search shows THIS article which is too long for me to read and it's not a movie so I lost interest //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

If you want, I can send you a copy of Windows 7 Beta. You'll just have to pay shipping.

Granted, you'll have to purchase the release version when it comes out, because it will stop functioning shortly after. However, Windows 7 is a godsend compared to Vista.

You can legally download the win7 beta off torrent sites, M$ just didnt want to handle the load of hosting it on there servers for the general public, you can still request keys from M$ if you want.

Didn't think they were still giving out keys.

But yeah, go that route. Just download the files, create an image file with ImgBurn, and then burn it to a DVD.
