physical memory on computer?

Exactly.
Vista is a memory hog. You have to have at least 2GB of ram to run vista. It will use 1GB by itself.

You can delete the programs but the damage is done. Fresh install is the only way to get all of your speed back.
Yeah, because no one can afford $20 for 2 GB of RAM //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I would rather load a fresh install of a markedly superior OS for free instead. Then upgrade if you find it necessary.

How is XP "markedly superior?"
I'd really love to know ... I used XP as my primary OS from 2001 until April 2008 and have switched all my computers over to Vista for some inexplicable reason. I must really hate myself to switch over from a markedly superior OS.

BTW, the "markedly superior" OS is going to be a pain in the *** when it comes to your average joe finding drivers for it on a laptop.

Please show me where I once mentioned XP. Go ahead, I'll wait....

Can't find it? Must be because I suggested Win7, not XP. 7 IS superior to Vista in just about every way. It is faster, more stable, and vastly easier to use.

Although, there are many many people who would disagree with your implication that Vista is superior to XP. XP is still faster (including better multi-core support than both Vista and Win7), uses less resources, and lacks annoying pop-up dialogue boxes. Seeing as the only upgrade I noticed in Vista was aesthetics, I consider it a waste of time. If it comes on your machine, and you only use it for normal, casual computing, Vista is perfectly livable, especially since the release of SP1. But given the choice, I would go Win7>XP>Vista. I certainly wouldn't spend the money to switch any of my computers over.

And seeing as Microsoft will be releasing Windows 7 just 2.5 years after Vista, it would seem that very few people share your train of thought.

No need for an O/S reinstall. Just delete the progs you don't need, and use msconfig or crap cleaner to customize your start up and registry to run light as mentioned above. It's entirely possible to get Vista to run just as good as XP with a little tweaking.

Currently running both 7 and Vista, Vista is definitely more stable for me.
Easier to use ? It's laid out exactly the same as Vista.

Faster ? 7 is faster on my laptop, but I haven't really noticed any speed increase in general use on my desktop. It's substantially slower accessing data from a network drive on both computers.
