Phoenix Gold Speakers and amp for $190 is that good?

I have a friend who can get me speakers whole sale and they told me for $190.00 bucks I can get all the Phoenix Gold speakers my car needs (2005 Scion TC) and a Phoenix Gold amp.

Now the amp I was told is only enough to push the actual speakers and not a sub woofer.

Honestly I do not care about a sub that much b/c I like rock and metal and so the bass really doesnt matter that much to me.

In the future I might would add a sub though.

So my question is, is that a good deal? And knowing the type of music I enjoy are those a good set to buy? I can get stuff fairly cheap I hope if it works out so I'd really like to get top of the line speakers for Rock. Is Phoenix Gold my best bet?

I don't know. I really do not know the first thing about Car Audio. All I know is I want to upgrade from my factory and after some googling I've read that Phoenix Gold was pretty good.

But if you have specific stuff you could/would recomend I'm sure I could get exactly that from him. As far as a specific Phoenix Gold amp and or speakers.

By the way it does not *have to be Phoenix Gold. If there is better stuff out there then please let me know. Basically I would like to keep the amount below $500.00. The $500.00 is probably alittle higher retail though as I'm buying directly from someone who onws a store and will be purchasing it wholesale.

People just seem to love the PG RSD components... Not Phoenix Gold in general...

The 5.25" ones can be had for 75$, and I think you can get the 6.5" for 80 something.

Whats the deal with all the Rainbow stuff I am reading? Would that be a definate "upgrade" over PG?
