Blow stuff up!
Hey fellas, another subjective question for you all here...
I have a set of PG RSD speakers coming available out of my truck (1 pair each of 6.5" components and coaxials), and was wondering how they compare to the current generation JBL GTO speakers. The destination car will be my wife's Mazda 5 which will end up hosting an old school Alpine Flex-5 amp (4x40+100 @ 2ohms). I'm not looking for ground breaking sound, just more high frequency articulation than the RSDs have. The RSDs seem a bit muddy to me, and the JBL GTOs seem to be probably the cheapest halfway decent component set in the 6x8 size. If there's not too much difference between the two, I'll cut some baffles and stuff the RSDs into the 5, otherwise I'll sell them and get the JBLs.
As far as music preference, I listen to a pretty wide range- metal, trance, dubstep, classical- so clarity and accuracy is important, at least for the money that I'm willing to spend, which isn't that much these days with kids in the picture. $150ish is the target for front and rear if you have any other suggestions, since that's what I can afford after dumping some of the hardware that I have in storage. I'll be backing up the bass with an Infinity 860w that I'll build an enclosure for someday and hide under a seat or near the spare tire without eating any storage space.
For reference, this is what's in there now from the previous owner, with what I assume are the factory tweeters (which sound like poo) in the sail panels. I have no clue how they're wired in, since I haven't found any crossovers:
Kenwood KFC-C6893PS (front and rear)
JBLs that I'm looking at:
JBL GTO8608C (front)
JBL GTO8628 (rear)
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
