Any of you guys have a Phenom cpu in your rig? I built myself a new PC last week. Finally got it together and I am trying to OC it. If anyone has one and is doing any better than me have you got any tips? This is the best I can do so far and be stable...

PS. If your an Intel fanboy I don't care that they have faster/better OCing cpu's out right now. I paid $175 shipped for my 9850 BE and it's running stable at over 3 ghz atm. For the price you can't complain about that.

Phenom 9850 BE ( CPU )

ZALMAN CNPS9700 ( cpu cooler )

Msi K9A2 CF V2 ( MB )

Evga Geforce 8800 GTS

OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)

Antec BP550 Plus 550W ATX12V V2.2 Power Supply

LG Blu-ray/HD DVD-ROM & 16X DVD±R DVD Burner

you are expecting members around here to help you to get more out of your oc'ed cpu? have you seen some of the questions about computers that are asked here?

overclockers, hardforums or anandtech would be a much better place to ask

i stopped oc'ing when i switched from the Athlon XP to my Core2Duo because it is more cpu than I need so no reason for me to waste time on that crap anymore

Yeah, I'm just not a fan of Intel, I like to root for the underdog, and honestly like you said for what I do every day no matter if I got a Q6600 or the 9850 they will do anything I could ever want to atm. The only thing the OCing even helps me on is converting movies to divx or DVD.

There has to be someone here decent with computers, at least better than me that might have a good tip or two. As many members as we have. I figured it couldn't hurt to ask //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i've kinda been out of the loops a little bit but, as long as you can keep temps low-mid then keep on truckin, if it starts getting unstable try loosening up your ram timings, i see u have an aftermarket cooler already, not sure how good that one is but zalman makes quality shit, i know back in the day the thermaltake big typhoon was the best air cooler you can get. but trying to piece together a system that will have good oc abilities is kinda hit or miss, certain ram+mobo combo's will limit you,

btw always do your oc'ing through the bios and not through some software that came with your motherboard,

other than that, nice rig and oc, keep us posted on what you hit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

i have chosen quiet over overclock these days. i even use onboard video so there is no GPU fan noise

i used to hava a "delta screamer" on a 1ghz t-bird overclocked to 1.46ghz with a bazillion case fans. that was huge back in the day;)

Haha I used to have a 800mhz T-bird. Don't remember how high I ever got it but I had a billion case fans also. **** thing sounded like a jet engine when you turned it on. I really like this Phenom so far though. Takes 20-30 minutes to convert a divx to dvd. My old Opteron 170 took about 3 hours =/

Well I had a P4 2.4e that I ran at 4.1ghz off a promie stable.

But seriously, I stopped messing with all this O/Cin shit

I miss dah tbirds and geforce 3s.

EDIT: 1.3v i's nice
