Phasing?

Exscuse me for my lackof knowledge, im a complete car audio noob and I have a few quick questions.

First off, how would I know if my "phasing" is incorrect..like having my wires not in the right terminals.

What would it sound like?

Also, if my Treble is at +7 (max) on my headunit in order for it to sound right what should I adjust in order to bring the Treble to 0, and still be loud enough vocally.

Im really confused with my new components as they sound very high pitch.

The simplest way to know is to be very carefull when wiring up your amps and crossovers. All speaker wires have a striped side or a side witha flat edge to indicate the negative.

As long as your sure you did both sides the same you should be okay. Having all the speakers out of phase isn't as bad as having just one side of speakers out of phase. That would seriously effect sound quality.

The only way to be sure is to use a phase tester, called a "Cricket". They cost about $100-$200, so unless you have alot of need for one, or know someone who has one, then just be very carefull how you wire your system.

You should start with your bass and trebble controls at zero. On most sytems, you can go up several clicks (+7 on yours) and down the same amount (-7). So zero is actually in the middle.

When you turn the music up very loud it is normal for the highs and lows to get too loud. This is called the "Loudness Curve". Our ears hear differently at different frequencies and volumes. It is normal that at high volumes you will need to turn down the trebble (-2, -3, etc). This is also happening with the bass freq's, but we usually don't complain about that as much.

At low volumes you may need to boost the trebble and bass (+2, +3, etc), in order to sound good, but when you turn up the volume, you should adjust these back to zero, or a negative number at very high volumes.

Some radios have "Loudness" function. That boosts the bass and trebble for you, so you don't have to dial each one up and down. You can just turn the "Loudness" on and off for quiet or loud listening.
