PG Rsd Makes Popping Sound

I've got the bass boost knob turned all the way down and the sub is in a 1.25 cu ft sealed box with poly fill for right now. I can barely even hear this freakin sub though. About the time I get the gain turned up to were the sub is getting some good excursion it makes this popping like plastic hitting plastic sound when the bass hits. Does this mean my amps clipping or is that just all this sub has and it's bottoming out? What should be my next step to try and fix this? I hate to build a new box for it if that is really as loud as it gets cause if thats the case I'll just sell it and get something else like the new audioque subs when they come out. Any ideas?

How much power are you feeding it? I SERIOUSLY doubt it's bottoming out, the RSD's can handle upwards of 1000-1200wrms without too much strain. I'd check for possible defects in the cone and rubber surround, or perhaps some loose screws where you secured it to the box.

You never know, there could be poly fill getting in behind the cone inside the basket screwing some stuff up... check on it. The RSD's are really great subs if you have enough power for them, you'll NEED like 500+ for the 10" and 700+ for the 12".

I've got 800+ watts goin to it, mtx801d. I took the poly fill out today and put the sub back in and still doing same thing. I think i'm just too used to spl type subs that have a lot more output.

It has nothing to do with the music, it's something mechanical but idk what it is.
if your playing music with really low notes it'll bottom, so yes it has to do with the music. if your going around bumpin bass mechanic then the really low notes might be bottoming it out.

I had a similar problem with one, something possibly the dustcap is poping off, we just returned it, it was my buddies. check the dustcap and make sure it isn't partly detached or the cone from surround....

i've had the same problem with a 10" rsd. it was supposedly bnib when i bought off a member here.

my experience was that it only did it when I turned it up. on low volumes it was okay.

i'm guessing this is a common problem with these subs.

the reason i sent my kappa perfect 12.1's back was because they were making a really loud popping sound, kind of like what you have described. but it was only at really high volumes and it was because the gule holding the spider to the former some how stopped holding and it was the sound of the spider sliding on the former that made that popping noise. it was still a very tight fit but at high excursion it was enought to make the spider slip.

my fi q arrived defective......it was making a tinsel slap noise but even when I held the tinsels with my hand it still made the noise. I dont know what was wrong with it so I just sent it back to fi and they're fixing it right now

Mine is doing the same thing, it's only at high volume, but it shouldn't be high enough for it to be bottoming. My ex's stupid pos 12" sony xplod in a crappy box sounds better and hits harder than this thing and that isn't right. Mine is in a truck and hers is in the trunk of her civic. Luckly I bought it from an authorized online dealer so warranty shouldn't be any problem at all. Anybody had to rma anything to http://www.onlinecarstereo.com?
