Its a common figure of speech based on a legal term, a legal 'motion' being seconded. People do alter the phrase to say 'notion', just as they could alter it to say they third the motion, but the original saying was indeed 'motion'. You looking up Yahoo Answers to find the notion version does not make you calling someone stupid for using the original term correctly any less rude or technically inaccurate. But I wont argue such a silly debate, you've read Yahoo Answers by now obviously, so you know as well as I do that he was not a 'stupid cunt' for saying motion.
