I am doing a persuasive speach for english class for pro PC over macintosh. I would just like to hear everyones opinions on which they think is better so I can use you guys as a source for my speach. Any input would be appreciated. Just tell what you like or don't like about either. Thanks

mac is more user friendly, more stable, more efficient. you dont have to worry about driver issues all the time, etc. etc. on the flipside, they are more expensive and there is less of an aftermarket for them. however the need for one is changing as apple's marketshare increases and they venture into different designes

I have used both and still have both. I much prefer Mac over PC. More convient than a PC. Better features. Dont need to be worried about being "outdated" the week after buying it. Mac FTW!!!

gaming also blows for macs, but i dont game on my computer so i dont really care that much.

also the effortless networking and media sharing between macs is pretty bad ***. with frontrow etc.

I've been using pc's my whole life, and now since I started school all they have are mac's. With the career I'm going into I have to be educated on both. After using a mac, and realzing how simple and secure they are, I'm starting to like them. I may need to pick one up so I have both //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

for word processing, internet browsing, and as a media center (and by that i mean ripping CD's, d/ling music, etc.), the PC is king IMO. no need to pay the arm and a leg for a Mac when a cheap PC will do it. when you get into video editing and such, the Mac will shine, but PC's aren't as behind as all the Mac users would like you to think. I'll take a PC anyday...you couldn't give me a Mac

i don't want to hear the stability argument or the virus argument either...the Mac OS isn't infallible, and any ****tard can avoid viruses on a PC if they have any common sense

i totally agree with u, never had a virus since ive been use a pc, and its much easier to use, ONE CLICK MOUSE FTL, REAL MOUSE FTW:D PC anyday

Macintosh has the same exact hardware as a PC down to every detail. They always did, except they used a VASTLY inferior PowerPC processor. Now even the processor is Intel.

A Macintosh is a PC. In a white case.

You are basically paying for the OS, which frankly, is no different than windows other than its simpler and prettier. You get 5% of the software that PCs have available, everything is a hassle except graphic design or video editing, and you have zero gaming options outside of Blizzard games.

A PC can do anything a Mac can do, and in most cases costs at least 100% less.

Of course, you will look so much less chic with a dull grey Dell laptop in that indie coffee shop amongst all those wax-haired 20-somethings and their Apple White plastic accessories and mochachinos.

Macintosh has, for the last decade, made its money almost entirely on image. Mac people are the minority. For the most part, they bought Macs because of one or all of the following:

A) They have the impression that certain industries (graphic design, video editing, anything "artsy") require macs for compatibility reasons, or that Macs are somehow better at running these applications. There was a time several years ago when this was true, but for the last 5 years or so Macs have actually proven on every benchmark to be VASTLY inferior at running apps like Photoshop, mostly due to the aforementioned crappy PowerPC processor.

B) Macs have always marketed themselves as the quiet, civilized option. Some people buy macs to be part of the elite circle. They see the tiny marketshare as a small community of people who have seen the face of a superior computing god in a world of barbarians hammering away at typewriters.

C) Specialness. Look at Macs (admittedly absolutely GENIUS) advertising tactics and corporate image and you will see a trend of subtle posturing. Like the above, the obscurity of Macs in the market is postured as a mysteriously superior option. You will be different. Unique. Free. Noticed. See: hippy/indie/coffeeshop culture

D) Misinformation. Some people think that because each model is created, given a fancy name, and mass produced, that Macs are somehow magic computers that are greater than the sum of its parts. A computer doesn't benefit from "matching components". Specs are all it cares about. DDR or SDR ram? FSB speed? Etc. Specially selecting components that "work best together" seems to be the vague idea that the uninformed mac advocates clutch.

That said, there's nothing WRONG with Macs, other than the fact that they are artificially inflated in cost.

In closing, a Mac is a PC. A really expensive PC. With no superior features. Or games. Or software options. For special people. Who want to be unique and accepted in an elite circle.

Also a vast misconception is that Macs are more secure because there are less viruses. This just isn't true. Macs are at least if not more vulnerable than a Windows based PC.

But if you were a virus maker, hell-bent on inflicting as much damage as possible with your apocalyptic virus code, would you go after fucking 1-5% of the computing market that uses Macs? Hell no! You are going to assault the 80% that uses Windows!

I suppose that means that Macs are more secure due to this, but its only because nobody cares about them. If the market share were reversed Apple would crap its pants because the virus influx would be huge and they've never had to deal with finding solutions to OS vulnerabilitys on a large scale.

I like macs.

My father owned a graphics servise center as I grew up. Using both macs and PCs. That is when I got into them.

The guy above me is talking about inferior processing...Macs OS is MUCH more efficent then windows will every be. There for they do not need the amoun thtat a PC requires. WIth that said, the new macs now are using intel chips which will make them faster.

I record and I have been on several protools and DP machines. The macs are capable of handling more tracks and processing. The PCs that I have used seemed to crap out ofter 20 or so tracks. Some of the stuff I have done included ~50 tracks.

Games...PC hands down.

Internet...? who cares? Safari is just as fast as opera and FF.

I've used PC's and macs but i'm new to the OSX.

years ago in high school we had a media lab with all macs and one pc. The macs would destroy the pc at rendering (speed wise), but i could never get the software to run for long enough to finish my project. I stuck with the slower PC and just waited longer for it to render.

I use a PC because:

1. My dad consults for Intel, so until recently that was the only way to use an intel chip

2. I game a lot

3. i hate being the odd man out when it comes to opening files. Even if they should be compatable, there is always a slight problem

4. i walked into the mac store once and they have a "genius" bar. They are all retirees. Some of them knew their stuff, but still. That's just not right to try and convince me that i;'m dumb because i don't have a Tshirt from working there.

5. I'm stuck on the stability of pre OS X machines (which is poor).

6. I'm a Microsoft stock holder.

I will admit that macs look sweet. Their dispays are sharp and they are easy to use, but i'm sticking whith what i got.

um... the power pc processor wasn't ALWAYS inferior.

apparantly windows is unix, i had no idea. so im glad someone informed me

once again, very ignorant statment. i can already tell how much you know about computers.... oh **** it.

to put it quite plain, you're statments are very ignorant and just plain wrong.
