boot camp can change that mindset. when you're trained for war, you want to know who's the best. if they ain't on your side, you want to take them down.

on the financial side, my take-home pay tripled while over there. tax-free to boot, so i was able to pay off all my debts quickly.

to the OP, stay safe over there. good internet access is harder to get on the remote bases.

when my mom goes back over for her 5 month tour in september she will be making about 9k a month. of course shes been in for 20 years an is about to become chief nurse. i think she is a colonel right now. might be mistaken, i know she was a major an moved up a rank, an im pretty sure its colonel

alright speaking from experience. im an E4. when i was in afghanistan i made from 3-4k a month. thats including BAH, hazzard duty, and combat pay. if you decide to go to iraq u will be going with me. i just volunteered myself to go overseas with the same unit. but ill be making an extra 1k a month a few months into the deployment because ive been deployed for so many months. ill be getting my reenlistment bonus of 15k over there which will be tax free and part of my original sign on bonus over there which will be around another 2k or so tax free as well.

all the pay you get while you are over there will be tax free. the money is worth it if you dont have a very good job back in the states. i myself make more where i work than i do for my base pay in the military. luckily my job is going to pay me the difference while im away.
