THIS IS IMPORTANT!
Take everything that your dad (or parents) say negative about a hobby that gets you out of the house and doing something and write it in a book. Keep that book and when they get really old and you have to send them to a home (or are thinking about it) read the book. If its full, send them to a dump, if its not so bad.....maybe let them move in and be your own servants.

My mom *****es, but my dad doesn't say shit. I think my mom only *****es because I have major car audio ADD and I've had thousands of dollars of equipment laying around for 2+ years now and none of it has been installed. I just keep buying, selling, trading. She really got pissed when she found out I put up the $200+ Stinger multi-amp wiring kit she got me for Christmas one year. That and I should be saving my money for school.

Its seems I have a totally different situation here:crap:

My dad just redone his blazer with 6 15's with 4 amps and a front stage and some batterys and all that good stuff. my dad was teaching me how to wet sand and tig weld when i was 5, i have a much different relationship with my parents than many other people. growing up in a body shop, where the entire family was envolved, we grew closer in many aspects.

when i wanted my own car at 12, my dad was stoked, he helped me with everything, when i wanted my first stereo system, he was excited to show me how to pull things apart and hide stuff correctly and how to make excellent trim pieces and so on and so on...

my dad and i just love to work together, one day my dad and i were working on the hydro system of a dump truck and told me something, he rolls over under this truck and looks at me and tells me that im his favorite person to work with...this coming from a guy who has worked with tons of people more experienced than i...so thats how my family rolls

now im much older and it's only the woman in my life that i have to worry about, and she's actually fine with it as long as i leave the grocery getting in tact...

just talk to him man to man...figure out what he wants from you...

my mother hates it when i go outside to install something or just to mess around with the car. she'll come outside and say "turn that sh*t down". today i put my sub back in, brought it downstairs and she was like "what is that?" i explained. she then turned and said, "so that is the thing that goes boom boom boom and hear all the time in your room and has the floors vibrating?", yes mom, but this one is going into my car. she turns back to washing the dishes all in disgust.

my father on the other hand doesn't care. except for the first day that i got my car, i ripped out the HU. he was like, that sh*t better look f*cking professional. now, he just can't get over the fact that i don't run my rear speakers. everytime he sees me outside and adjusting something with the car, he is like "do you have the rear speakers playing?" and i keep telling him, no. i will never have my speakers playing in the rear. he just keeps asking over and over and over, ****

my parents hate car audio, but only because of the money it consumes rather than the boom boom. They find the noise quite entertaining, but they get pissed that i spend so much money on it.

They used to pull the excuse that i cant spend any more money because i will need it for college next year. I have a ton saved, but i got the next 4 years of college paid for thanks to some hefty scholarships i recieved, so now they dont have any excuses.

and dont worry all you parents out there, im saving most of the money still.....

All i can say is , my parents dont mind. My brother has a system in his car and my dad liked it. Whan i get my system in im their not going to say anything about it.

Plus i dont think i system will be that loud

Sounds like your parents are from the "old" generation that doesn't understand what you do, or comprehend that you could be doing MUCH worse with your $$$.

I try to support everything my sons do, even if I don't aree with it. I only find positive things to say and don't harp on the negative.

I tend to error on the side of "best friend" when it comes to parenting, but you only get one chance and I'm not going to spend it all *****ing at my boys, life's too short...

My mom always supported me on whatever I did when I was growing up, so maybe that's where it comes from.

And some of it could be envy or jealousy. That you have the free time/$$$, and not all the responsibilities that they have.

My parents don't mind because I am spending money I earned that is going into something that will last. They also know I spend a lot of time driving for school, work, roller hockey, etc. My mom just always bugs me to turn it down. Even though I don't listen to it very loudly it is still too loud for her.
