Is this a good head unit?

I don't care about radio, I would need MP3 playback (I guess AAC would be nice as well), at least two sets of preamps and an output for a sub, and good sound quality.

I have a 2000 Toyota Tacoma, and will get an amplifier and probably Rainbow SLC 265 kick midrange speakers crossovers and tweeters for the front, and maybe eventually a sub.

I ran a Pana (8300 for sale now) fora couple years and liked it alot. Good price and features. The display was pretty good, i've seen better, but good none the less.

Its not a bad head unit at all. I used to run a panasonic also. For the price you can do better though. Look towards Pioneer or Kenwood.

Has everything that last one did except for a lot more reviews and can play AAC files (I have a lot of music in itunes).

Is it bad though that the preamp voltage is only 2.2 volts

If you get the Premier 680mp instead of the Pioneer 6800mp you will have your 4Volts. Plus it looks cooler.

You can also go with the Premier 590UB. It has all of the same specs the 680 does but its the 2007 model and comes with the Ipod adapter in box. I had the chance to tinker with one at the shop near my house. As I stated, all of the same options, but the 2007 model feels sooo quality. The 2006's are quality also, but the OEL screen on the 2007 models seems like a little higher resolution, and the knob is actually made out of metal and not painted plastic. The knob feels so smooth and high tech.

Whats the differnece between having 4 volts or 2.2 preamp voltage? And why is the 06 model more than the 07?

I just installed one in my wife's car. She wanted it because she could upload her own pictures as a background. I was actually pretty surprised at the sound quality coming from it. I had never heard a Panasonic deck before. Everything else they make is good (tvs, phones), so why should a car stereo be different.
