Pair of 8s, a 10, and a pair of Aces...wait this isn't Poker

Which do you recommend, a pair of 8" subs, or a single 10" sub?

  • You really need a 10" sub to do the job, even if it's only 1 sub.

I have room for an enclosure to house either a pair of 8" subs, or a single 10. I have around 175 watts RMS to feed to the sub channel. This is a daily driver vehicle, and I'm just trying to get the best overall sound, with some good low-end punch. Front soundstage is a pair of rsd-65's with around 45 WRMS.

So what are the opinions on which is better...a pair of 8's, or a single 10? Assume that the enclosure will be less than 1 cube. A 12 isn't an option due to dimensions. I can probably port either enclosure, although it will be difficult and probably small-ish.

Thanks...

Ryan

I'm not really looking for specific brand recommendations. I know there are a lot of great brands out there...we all have our favorites. I've never had 8" subs before, and I'm wondering how a pair of them would compare to a single 10" at a wattage under 200 WRMS. I know a single sealed 10" can be a bit weak depending on situation, will the 8's be stronger since they are a pair, or weaker, because they are smaller and have less low end umph?
