Painting MDF for subbox

Im gonna paint my sub box instead of putting it carpet it on it.... im using 3/4 inch MDF for the sub box, but what paint is good to use on it?

Should i also prime the MDF before painting... never painted MDF before. Thats why i ask.

it's just like painting anything...

Smooth out the surface first. If sanding is sufficient, then you are lucky. Most people would apply some body filler at least around where the wood pieces join together to cover up the lines. Sand sand sand.

Primer, sand to further smooth surface, primer again, repeat as necessary

Paint. Multiple light coats.

Wetsand with super fine grit sand paper, or apply clear coat and then wetsand.

I've used latex house paint, spray paint, fleckstone, hammertone, etc...

As mentioned it's like painting anything else although I never bother with primer. Only the end grain will soak up the paint. Also not an issue with hammer or fleck as they go on THICK.

Practice on a piece of scrap....
