Painting emblems

Did a test paint, didnt even wet sand. The one on the right is VHT Niteshades. On the left is Rustoleum Metallic Blue for metal surfaces (had it laying around and wanted to see what it would look like).

These are both with only one coat and no clear coat. The one with Niteshades could have been done better. A bit of the chrome is still visible, but then again that could be a good thing to give it the black chrome effect. I'm going to see how a metallic black would look and the Niteshades with clear coat.

Ya, I will clear coat it, just that it's too dark outside right now. I'm going to wet sand still and see how it looks with that. Also going to to see how 2 layers of paint work, though it may be too thick.

i got like 10 more emblems today at work //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif also u can spell donpisto on ur car now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Hahaha, but what if I decide to get a different username???

Anyway, I'm pretty much set. Been practicing on the Infiniti lettering and I haven't wet sanded at all and the paint stays. I found some black metallic paint and that is looking good. Did one with 1 layer of it and 1 layer clear coat. Doing another one with 2 layers and a layer or two of clear coat.

Only thing I'm having trouble with is finding the double sided foam tape. Home Depot didn't have any, at least the one I went to. Gonna try Pep Boys, maybe they will.

so dont want all the fvcking emblems i took?

i can prob get you some. we use that ish all the time. ill check my shop when i go over there @ 3:30 to get walks ups windshield. anything else u might need while im over there? you can always try glueing it on with polyurethane. maybe butyl tape? but that stuff turns into a liduid when it gets too hot.

I might still need em...regardless, I'd like to have em //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

But I did get the foam tape from Pep Boys.

I actually don't like how that black metallic one came out. It was nice but when I get overlay tints for my tail lights, it won't really match since those are black and the emblems look more like a dark grey.

I got some gloss black and did a single layer, gave me the look I wanted but then went to clear coat it and it got all nasty. Going to try to do one with primer first and then do the same thing with a different clear coat. Worst comes to worst I'll just do a layer or two of the gloss black. It just seems like it will attract fingerprints and such.

Thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif But I just noticed the passenger side rims now are dented thanks to the idiot who had these super low profile tires on the rims. If it gets worse or I get more bumps I'm going back with the stock wheels till I get new tires.

I think I'm going to go back with the Metallic look even though its more of a dark gray. I did the gloss black and I can do only one layer. If I do a second layer or even use a clear coat, it bubbles up or leaves an ugly finish. One layer of the gloss black also comes off easy. I was cleaning it and it's not smooth so it will also attract lots of dirt and whatnot. Another route that might work is a matte black and gloss that. Hopefully I'll have some updates tomorrow.
