paint?

ok so ive tried quite a few times unsucessfully to repaint the bottom window trim and wiper arms on my escort. ive stripped it all down to the metal and painted it with a few general spray paints and have had no sucess. every time i would paint it it would go on but then after it dried it would like rub off and just wouldnt stay on right. eventually i tried painting it and then going over it with a clear coat, which has held up for a good couple months. but now im wanting to repaint it and the finish wasnt very good with the clear coat, so i was wondeirng if anyone knew how i could repaint it again? if i used some spray on primer first and then applied the paint should it work? or is there any general spraypaint at like homedepot that i could use??

btw id like to do this myself with some kind of rattlecan paint

any suggestions would be great

wow ok, retarded noob question, its late. did a search and pretty much i need to find some rattle can primer i think
