P880PRS vs XXV-01D for SQ

Hi guys, I am Matt from the UK, this is my first post over here on your forum, I am a regular on talkaudio in the UK.

I was wondering if you guys could help me out as I am in a bit of a dilema on which HU to purchase next.

Basically I would like to know which one of the above units will be better for SQ in particular tonality and staging. In the UK not many people have heard the XXV-01D or the P880PRS so it is hard to get a comparisson.

I have tried using the search but have not been able to find a direct comparisson on SQ alone between the 2 units.

Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT:- System is as follows

DLS A3

Seas Lotus Reference

DLS A6

JL 10W6v2

Thanks in advance,

Matt

p880prs

you can use the search function on this board to find out info on the 2, and the P880PRS is one of the BEST sq headunits for the money in my opinion.

I just checked out some info on the XXV-01D...

P880: dual L/R 16 band EQ

xxv: 4 band param EQ

P880: auto time alignment

xxv: none mentioned

P880: auto EQ

xxv: again none mentioned

P880: burr brown DAC

xxv: i didnt see anything special mentioned

these are just a few of the features of the P880prs as I just woke up and im a bit lazy at the moment lol

dont get me wrong it looks like a stout HU for the price (it seems to be cheaper than the pioneer) but I would take the pioneer over it any day

ive heard the auto-calibration (the P880 comes with the calibration microphone, btw) is worth buying one alone, just because ive heard people having amazing results with it, but I havent used it so I have no idea.

bk12321, I believe the XXV has time alignment but it is not left/right independent just front, rear and sub, it also has dual 24bit BB DACS. Thanks for the info on the auto TA, it was staging that my last HU lacked so this is good news.

I had the XXV unit.. I loved it.. However the 880 is a far cry for tuning features.. Would be no contest to me now. The XXV is a quality unit though and does sound great, but if you really want to solidly dial in the TA and the EQ, the 880 will get you closer to true time accuracy and flat eq. For just left/right audio signal purity, the xxv was a fine unit though and had great dac's and preamp output.

Depending on your ear and tuning skills or if you can use some electronic tuning aids, mike with rta etc, the 880 will get you closer as it simply has more parameters.

I'd rate build quality probably equal, but I was very happy with the build of the xxv.

Thanks Babs, nice to have a comparisson from someone who has experience of both. I think I am going to go for the 880 although someone has a p9r combo for sale on talk audio in the uk which is very tempting:)

Well to be clear, I owned the excelon unit, but not the 880.. Going on all the research and reviews on that unit.

If the P9 combo is in your budget.. No contest.. You'd be stepping off into the tall grass with that unit into the uber-SQ high end of head units. It has few competitors I know of, except maybe the drz9255 (I think it's called the Clarion HX-D2 in the UK), or the Alpine DVD/PXA-H701 combo or the F1-Status Alpines. I consider the 880 a "poor man's P9".

The P9 combo would be great but I am a poor man lol so maybe the 880 would be the one to go for, or I could go with a Alpine 7944 with H701 processor... So many choices.
