Overpowering subwoofer

I was playing my sub, nothing out of the ordinary except increased volume. When i opened the trunk to get something out, i smelled burning; i immediately turned the gains down to prevent further damage. It was doing this for maybe 1 hour max, and i dont notice anything different physically or able to hear anything different. I need this sub to last 1 week+construction time of an Fi BL.

What could be the consequences of this?

If you increased the volume higher than your normally do, you probably sent a clipped signal to your sub. You say you were playing for an hour, who knows how long you could have been burning your coil.

If you keep blasting it the way you are, then that sub will be gone in a day.

I replaced my old LOC with an active one. Gains at neutral and its so much more powerful, so much that it was easy to overpower

As of now i set all the gains down and played it at max HU volume and no signs of that smelly smell. That smelly smell that smells, smelly. What does partially burning a voice coil entail?
