Our government....

World is over in 2012 so it doesnt matter
a little closer to 2013 actually buddy... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbcool.gif.25d3f515a7f948dd6be51428263071ef.gif

you need money to get into power...most everyone that has that money is greedy as anything. Its a sad thing, but theres not much the average Joe can do about it.
I think you make a logical case, but I disagree on one big issue. We are free to vote for the choices we are given. One of the main reasons politicians refuse to truly address election reform is all that money it takes to finance a candidacy for national, or even state level, office position means you are either a multi-millionaire willing to spend your own personal money on it, or it comes from being supported by the powers that be (democratic and republican parties). The average person 'cant get there from here'.
We are free within the confines that they allow us to be free.
It sounds like you are only speaking to the ability of the average person to run for office. At the end of the day representatives are elected by the people and the people can vote many different ways, they are not limited to dem or rep. Most of all, like minded people can organize together to bring change. People don't seem to realize the importance of this. This is how real change occurs in a large democracy. Rosa Parks didn't just decide to sit in the front of the bus one day, that was a coordinated move she made having already discussed and planned with the NAACP. I'm not saying that major structural or bureaucratic problems have not arisen in the US, all I was originally saying is that they can be changed but citizens need to realize that you can't be so inactive about it. So to be explicit, ultimately I am claiming that the root problem in the United States is the people. 50% voting rates on a good year? Most people can name an American Idol judge but not a supreme court justice? More Americans supported the war in iraq than can point iraq out on a map? I mean, I get so sick of hearing people ***** about the government when most of them couldn't even name their own congressional representatives. I also have to add that i completely reject that last vague conspiratorial sentence you threw in there.

Most people don't even know the branches of the federal gov't, how many reps are in the House, how many sens are in the Senate or how many justices sit on the Supreme Court...sad really. I think there should be a civics test each and every time someone goes to vote. It would keep the morons from voting for the morons and probably give us a better federal gov't...better being conservative/libertarian...kill the leftist moonbats. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I never said its impossible to break through the monopoly on political power the two parties in this country hold, I said they like having it as difficult as possible. Why do you think both sides rattle their sabers about 'campaign finance reform', but neither side actually fixes it? In fact, congress recently changed the law to now allow corporations to make political contributions. Big money, and backing from the political powers that be... that's how you get elected.

I agree with you wholeheartedly that the average american is far too ignorant of the political system in their own country. But, and maybe this is just paranoia talking, but it certainly benefits the two parties in power that the 'masses' stay ignorant. That makes it much easier to whip them into a terror frenzy over the us versus them mentality. You mention the 50% voter turn out. How many of those people, if asked, could discuss the major political topics of that season, versus how many would simply say something along the lines of "I voted for him because Im a democrat" or "I voted for him because Im a republican"...?

I do not know how you can reject the idea that our freedoms are limited, but it is certainly your prerogative to maintain your enthusiasm for our political system. You feel differently than I do, I can respect that.

Cheers.

Most people have given up. I live in Upper Michigan, life is slow here, and a lot of peoples opinions on this subject is that there is nothing they can do to change it. I know many up here that would do well in some sort of power. But they will never be, they lack the funds to get elected, lack the time with a real job, and just will never be able to do it. Everyone in these positions of power make too much money, in my opinion, people who work their ***** off should be paid more than them. People who make this world go round, people who do their everyday job to make everyones life easy. Im so sick of hearing of all of these politicians who are corrupt, who get into drugs, and get into affairs. Really? Why are these people running my state, and my country?

some people are to sick to work and they need help. if its ssi ssdi or even dss
waaay too many people abuse that system. Should be much more stringent limits on this.

The best advice i have almost ever heard is this

People who work for a living, have to take drug tests to get paid. We work 1/3 of our LIFE for the government on average. People who are on welfare and all that jazz should be made to take a drug test once a month to receive their money

people who get gov help(money) they dont get much .

I disagree with you on that. Its possible to live a decent life with the money you get from welfare if you know how to work the system.

I personally feel that there should be some sort of checks and balances in place to verify that people are not taking advantage of the system. yes, there are people that legitimately need the assistance. Hell, i'm not to proud to say that I've been on food stamps in the past for a short time. But while I was getting food stamps, I was out looking for a job every day until I found one. Once I did, I informed DHS that I no longer needed them and no longer qualify. The problem is people are out using the Food stamps, TANF, Section 8 and all these other options to get by in life because they dont want to work and a good amount of these people are hooked on drugs. I'm all for requiring drug testing to get welfare.

Theres a "city" here (not really a city, but part of a city) that is pretty bad. A high percentage of people that live there are on bridge cards, disability, or some other sort of "aid" from the state/country. Its pretty ridiculous. A lot of them are just too lazy to get a real job, and just get by on aid from the state. It sickens me that theyre allowed to do this when i work my a ss off by going to school and working and they have nicer vehicles, nicer houses, and basically nicer everything than me. I know having nice things isnt happiness. But, it would be awesome if i could wake up every morning KNOWING that my car would start. I dont agree with it at all.

Some do need it from time to time, im perfectly ok with that...

If they have nicer cars, nicer house, nicer anything then you, you're not trying hard enough. Welfare does not pay that well. They may be selling drugs or made good investments with their outrageous income tax returns, but the actual welfare check and food stamps does not afford them these luxuries.

I agree that there needs to be drug tests for welfare but you cannot do it every month. States would go broke if they had to pay the money to test monthly. What do you do about states that are already busted, like California.

Mooonbats really? Do you really want an entire government of Right Wing War mongers. I could see the budget now; no more department of educations, no more arts programs, 90% of the budget will be spent on defense. Screw education. Don't worry though we would be armed to the teeth and be able to kick anyone's *** who called us dumb! Teen pregnancy would skyrocket because no one would give kids condoms (because telling your kid to abstain fro *** really works). No more needle exchange so disease would run rampant. Forget freedom of religion you will worship only one God and like it. That's the world I want to live in!

Im just kinda curious what some peoples opinions are on how they run our country. Agree, disagree?
Discuss.

I hate how we give all our money away to other countries we blow the shit out of. I hate how we give money to people on welfare when theyre too lazy to get a job. I also dislike affirmative action. And no, im not being racist...its kinda crap when a certain race gets to go to college for free imo...
sounds like me n u would get along pretty good
