it would have been fine if i hadnt bypassed the primative protection circuit. LOL. i was 12 and just learning. I miss my old kenwood 15" floor speakers. I don't remember the model but i know they were trio kenwood , single 15 , double 6" mids , double tweets a super tweet and a huge attenuator knob on the front. Those things cranked!! Had a hole in the center of the dust caps from the factory??? idk why , cooling?

Had two different pairs of similar Kenwood Kabuki's. One had 6 drivers, the other had 5. Super efficient, but definitely harsh and not anywhere near the quality of even my small horn Technics speakers. Would have been decent on tubes, but they were torture on solid state lol

I liked really harsh loud speakers back then , i wanted to feel dimebag darrell's guitar squeals! these days i've got different taste. i just recently gave a pair of Epicure's away , under the pretense that my buddy kept them reconed them and i would buy them back when i had a place to use them. Since then he has developed a drug habit and my speakers were sold to a neighbor who threw all the drivers away and replaced them with some crappy fisher speakers from the mid 80's. I could have slapped both of them. Those Epicures sounded sweet still at lower volume , spiders were rotted. they were twin 8" and twin domes , a set fired forward and a set fired at an up/forward angle. And they just ruined them.

These are just like another pair he demolished , the woofers and mids are still intact but he put different tweets in them. I never got to hear them on a good amp. i was going to buy them off him until he threw the blown tweets away and cut bigger holes for the replacements. :[

About home audio? Self taught. Car audio? Mostly self taught. My buddy got me started into car audio, and a different buddy taught me about amp internals/repairs. I still have a lot to learn!
Well you still seem to know lots now hah. I'm having trouble getting from my level of knowledge to the next, mainly looking into learning more about speakers and enclosures, any books or sources you could share?

Car audio in the Dome is a //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nono.gif.eca61d170185779e0921b0faa9704973.gif

Experience...

This site helped me a while back, but there is no way to learn about car audio anymore because there is no more of that on this website (read the poast above me). And no, I don't care that this is The Dome. Any audio related material we can get on this site is good.

Save up some money and start patrolling craigslist for good deals. Find that one item that you can make AT LEAST double the profit off of. You will start off slow, and end up finding 2-3 good deals a week. Only buy equipment with the money you make from selling them. By doing this, and trying new things, you will learn more. You will also get ahold of better equipment than you could have dreamed of getting.

All of my equipment...every last amp, speaker, all my home audio equipment...It was all bought with the money I made through sales profits from craigslist. This includes my Atomic APX-18, Infinity RS 2.5's, both pairs of Technics SB-7000a's, my PPI A1200, etc. I noted every item that I could see myself selling about a month ago (only the stuff that I would want to sell, which is about half of what I own lol), found the average market value for selling them all, and the total was about $3500...Again, that's half of my equipment, all of which I acquired through money made off craigslist deals.

In the end, it's a win-win situation. If you get bored, try something new like repairing amps. I'm currently in the process of stripping an amp of every single component on the board...I'm 10 hours into it and about 75% done lol. There is still so much to learn...

No problem. Take heed. Read all the books you want, you'll only learn so much. Hands-on experience is the best source of knowledge.

By the way, it doesn't take long to go far. I have only been interested in car audio for about 2 years, and home audio for one year. My craigslist adventure started about a year and a quarter ago.
