Who knows a thing about electric guitar? I need to buy one

for a Christmas gift for a beginner.

I'm thinking one of these two.

Fender® Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar

Fender® Standard Fat Strat Electric Guitar [Humbucker]

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7...ase_pid/511002/

The person playing might be interested in death metal

type of music, which would be best?

[note: the person learning is more clueless than me on

guitars, so I can't ask them to pick ... hehehe]

I just finished researching this. The Standard Stratocaster is made in Mexico, $369 price and up. The American Stratocater is made in .... America... $800+ and up. Better quality control and parts, but you pay up the

wazu for it.

I'm more interested in knowing if the humbucker version is best for metal music?

From experienced guitarists, I've been told Fender is not the way to go. I would think an Ibanez RG series would be a good way to go for metal music. I think Fender just has a name that many people know which allows for people to think they're quality.

I'd also think it would be wise to let the person feel the guitar. If it doesn't have a nice feel for the person (every person is different), then it would be hard to adapt.

Here is my list of candidates;

Fender standard FAT strat

I have several strats, very nice guitars. Love them to death. But my musical taste lean towards the blues. Out of your choices for a beginner looking to play metal. I would say my vote goes to either of the ibanez . They tend to have the common "heavy metal" sound to them. Second choice being the jackson //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

In order for those guitars to produce good sound, how many six packs of beer isneeded ?

You mean the sg, or all in general ? I'm partial to the Fender stratocaster & Gibson Les Paul myself. But your choices are all great sounding guitars. Granted their are better sounding to be had, but not many for the price, without hitting up every pawn shop between me and you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
