Orion or Sundown Wutta U think?

i suggest sundown just cause of the fact that they can be bought new. the old school orions would be used and you cant really be sure they weren't abused. but i haven't used either so i cant really recommend one or the other.

x2 on all points

At least get the country of origin right if you are going to bash, they are manufactured in Korea.

My appology, but it wasnt a bash, nor was it directed just at your company, it was a personal preference for the kind of quality thats sorely lacking in the current Asian made products compared to the old days.

I beg to differ. You can have a high quality product made in Asia, but you have to ask for it and you will pay extra for it. The problem is that people go there for cost cutting and get out of hand with it. The factory I'm using builds an exceptionally good product -- do you happen to have any specific examples of a lack of quality on any of my products since they aren't made in the USA?

Of course, if you want a made in USA amp these days you'll pay twice as much for it. I've looked into it and build cost doubles... which doesn't make any sense any way you look at since 95% of the semi-conductors will come from Asia anyhow, along with the PCBs, and so forth. Part of the cost difference is simply export and import tariffs on the semi-conductors which the Korean companies don't have to pay as they are domestic to them. Most of the rest is paying extra for American workers... but are they really going to do a better job? Not necessarily.

Apology accepted, but I think perhaps you should reconsider.

You're right, there are exceptions and your products seem to be exceptional.

I agree with you that most often US companies are outsourcing to Asia only to reduce costs without regard for the loss of image poor products result in.

However (you knew something was coming!), starting in car audio back in the late 70's I will always prefer a US made amp, no matter how hard they are to find.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

And I think many US amp manufacturers have made a strategic mistake by going for cost reductions where they might not be needed.

For example, Helix, DLS, and Focal amps are examples of products made in Europe, a region with even higher costs than we have in the US, but because those brands are known for high quality they have no trouble commanding and getting a price thats above what other companies can get for a similar amp made in Asia.

Nice talking to a grownup here (its a rare event), thanks for your reply.

tis true, but sundown just isnt a huge name right now that can leverage money out of customers like say, JL. i am willing to bet, that they wouldnt sell much better if they were made in europe.
