Orion blown?

I don't know too much about fixing subs, or wether only certain ones can be fixed, etc. I've never actually had a sub that didn't work.

I'll just get to the point.

I got an Orion H2 12.4 for Christmas, turns out it's blown, doesn't work at all, even though it looks brand new.

Since it's almost 6 years old, is it still fixable? Any idea what it would cost?

Were going to go back tomorrow and see if we can exchange it for anything, but if I don't see anything I like, I plan on keeping it and getting it fixed if possible.

I'm basically just wondering if I can still get it fixed with it being almost 6 years old, and if I would have to send it back to Orion.

It's probably a dumb question, but like I said, I've never had this problem before.

Looks like a pretty solid sub, it's got the power handling that I wanted, and the reviews seemed to be pretty good for it..

Was it new? Tinsel look good?

Well I just went and looked closely at it and it looks like it's been mounted maybe once, the screw holes have just a tiny bit of wear on them, but everything else looks to be perfect. so I guess it's not brand new.

How would I check the tinsel?

I also noticed this wire here. Should it be like that?

Can't really tell what that wire is, never used those subs. The tinsels go from the terminals to the voice coil, probably under the dust cap. Are you on the island or mainland?

Well the wire comes out from the magnet area, then goes back in about half way around.Seems pretty loose, and moves when you push on the cone.

Mainland in Chilliwack, about an hour and a half from the island.

Have you put a meter on the coils yet? Looks almost like that picture is a winding of the coil. I don't know how easy it would be to get it re-coned from directed. Maybe someone else will know if another company can re-cone it or not.

No I haven't done that yet. I'll try it tomorrow, if it's no good then I'll go back and see what else they have. I need a new amp too, and my dad said there was a couple fairly large Power Acoustik amps there and couple other 12's and 15's(but he's already put those on hold for himself), so I'll check it out. If I don't find anything I like, I'll hold onto it and figure out where I can get it done.
