Optimal Wiring 13" JL w6v2 and JL 1000/1amp

What are the voice coils on the sub?? That amp does 1k watts from 1.5 - 4 ohms so regardless of what u wire it to its gonna be 1000 watts. For that sub its a lil bit too much power.

I believe the sub has dual 4 ohm. Should I wire them in parallel to get 2 ohms?

I understand the amp is too powerful for the sub, but it is for room for future upgrade.

Soo you're gonna overpower this sub so u can upgrade in the future?? I wouldn't put that power on that sub for very long at all. JLs especially W6s don't like much over rated wattage and thats pretty significant. If u wanted to do that u should of gotten an amp that did less power @ 2 ohms.

Planning on getting another W6 im guessing??

I wouldn't risk messing up that sub by running that amount of power to it daily, i'd just wait until u got the second one. Or sell the JL amp and get a different one for cheaper that will do more power @ 1ohm and will be good for the single W6 @ 2ohms.

I mean you could adjust the gains for give u a certiain amount of watts but you'd have to set the gains w/ a multimeter to make sure everything was correct, so u wouldn't be overpowering the W6 so much.

That sub can take 1k RMS no problem //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

In my buddy's setup i did for him (same one as listed by the OP) a few years ago, we set the gains for around 750 watts or so. I built the box and installed everything, within a week or so the sub got stinky and locked up.

Its from my personal experience that i made those judgements.

Wack install?? How'd you set the gains?? Was the sub getting clipped signals?? Way too many variables there...

I've owned 10 12 and 13 W6v2's

Just sold my second set of 13w6v2s

They took about 1200 RMS each in a ported enclosure non stop for 4 months.

Perfect in every way, read 4.0 each coil

I set all the gains w/ a DMM and installed everything... I accused him of beating on them too hard or messing with the gains. But when we took out the sub all the gains were exactly the same as when i set them.

Maybe others have had good success w/ them at higher watts but thats my personal experience.
