Optima Redtop Problems. Help!

I just recently got an Optima Redtop battery. It's a few months old, a friend gave it to me after selling his car.

Only problem is, it wont hold a charge. I charged it and the meter reads 12.4V, but I installed it in my car and the starter won't turn over.

Is there something wrong with the cell or one of the cores? Is there a way to fix this without returning it for warranty? i don't have the receipt =[

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

its probably toast, 12.4v means nothing, it needs load tested

Go to autozone and see if they can charge it.
