Optima Red Top and Powermaster D2400

I have a Optima Red Top for the starting battery and am thinking of getting a powermaster d2400 as a second battery.

Any problems using these two batts together?

Whats the best way to wire it up? Positives together and negatives together? Using a relay? Isolator?

Will a stock 130 amp alt be able to keep them charged?

Never mix different batteries without the isolator. They will work fine as long as you isolate them. 130a alt will charge the batteries just fine as long as your audio does not exceed what the alt can make (130a max). Also figure in that your car needs a certain amount of power for the stock electronics. Since you are running about 1500~2000W RMS on that sub, you possibly can pull 130a~140a with that amp alone.

What happens if the amp draws more power than the alternator produces? I forgot to mention that I am planning to run the Cadence at .5ohm on 2 RE SX 15's.

Thats what the batteries are for;). However running them at .5 ohms might be difficult, just get an alternator their not THAT expensive as most people say.

The battery I'm looking at is $200 shipped and a 140 amp isolator is around $80 to $100. I could probably find 2 more red tops for $300.

Red Tops are not made for car audio. If you use them in a car audio setup they will die rather quickly. They will not have any warranty either because of improper use. If you want to play, you have to pay. Sometimes there is no easy way. If you want to run big boy toys, you have to the power to do so. $200 shipped is not much for a good battery. Some people spend twice that on each battery. The isolator will protect the expensive *** battery you need to run your music. Without it you risk killing your $200 battery.

Now I understand with the economy and all if you don't have the dough to do it right. Just hold off on the build until you get it together and can do it right. It would cost a lot more if you run your stuff without proper power and blow an amp.
