Open Air Enclosure

Well not sure that is the correct term to use but looking to buy/build an enclosure for an old 10" MTX Thunder 4000 subwoofer. This subwoofer will be used outside around the swimming pool and fire pit. I will be using an old Directed Audio Extreme XA-5001 and xBox 360 power adapter to power the amplifier(12V/200W). Not the best equipment but this is what I have laying around for this project!

Should I be using a sealed or ported enclosure for this project? Stick with the manufacture specs for enclosure?

Usually I would say go ported all the way but from what I have read, ported enclosures only work good in enclosed areas like cars and rooms. I think it may not sound as loud in open air. I'm not 100% positive but would like to hear other opinions as well. If you end up going with sealed, I would try going on the bigger side like 1.5 cu ft to get the most out of it.

It's not actually 1.2 cu ft. It's about 1.15 before sub displacement. It's okay but I feel you could do better. I would just build one if I were you. Much cheaper and would sound better than that prefab. That rhino lined look is pretty nice but you could also do that yourself. It isn't that hard

make a horn loaded enclosure since space wouldnt be much of a problem

MDF is about $30 and truck bed coating is about $10 a can. I'd say it is about the same but can make a larger enclosure with 4x8' MDF. Time has to also be factored in as I already have enough time in the project. This is going to be a tow behind enclosure for tricked out RC power wheel... so there are still space and weight constraints.
