Source wise my setup is just an Onkyo DVD player (probably 4 years old), Xbox360 w/ HD DVD addon, and PS3. So I am looking to get the most out of HD DVDs and BluRay dvds. as well as music, I listen to/watch alot of concert DVDs. So music quality is very high on my list as well as movie soundtrack quality.

As I understand it, the THX select rating proves that the onboard amp can provide enough power to reach SPL levels of 105db in 20x20 room with approved THX select speakers. I don't think Im right, but thats what I remember.
Basically if you buy a THX select reciever you're going to get some nice power.
