One wire alternators

I wanted to get one of those for my 98 dodge dakota, couldnt find much info on it. Hopefully some1 will chime in
lots of people told me that the cheapy ones that they have for my car (because of the small case) wont be reliable at all and are just modified oem ones. this one fits all imports and is not oem for any of them. Ive only bought a h/o alt once b4 and it was an ohio gen one for my 5.0 . No way I can afford that now !

a prelude? pretty sure you have a very tight fit fir an alt.
It is a tight fit, Im dropping down to 11.7 now playing music though. I HAVE to get something in thewre b4 i ruin my amps. I have 3 batts that I charge up daily that doesnt help much tho.

get an alt that is made for your car not a "Universal Import" alt. you may end up getting an alt that probably won't even fir your car.

have one made by a company that has better reputation. i wouldn't trust an HO alt that only cost 200 bucks.
Man I cant even afford that one let alone one that costs $400 or more. I wish someone had a used one for sale or trade.

That's the average price for a decent HO alt. It's a big chunk of change, but worth investing properly in.

1-wire setups turn on based on your rpms, and charge like any normal alt after that (if the battery accepts power, it flows). These are good for basic car operation, especially for custom builds and hotrods, so you don't have any custom work to do... but not good for car audio. Many of them don't start operating until you get to higher rpms, and won't create much if any power at idle...

If you're stuck on a 1-wire, get a smaller pulley, so you can tap into more power, at lower engine speeds.

Thanx for the informative explanation.
