One vs Two

Sorry if this a dumb question. Will there be a difference in running 1 sub vs 2 off the same amplifier

I.e.

1200 watts into single 12

Or

600 watts each into two 12's

It's all 1200 watts but will two subs be louder than one?

the tow sub setup is going to be louder based off cone area. 1 12 has 12" of cone area meaning it has 12inches of sub moving the air around it which creates noise. 2 12s are going to have twice as much air displacement. So yes even at half the power 2 12s will be louder. A sub really depends on its box though to get the best sound so if you have 1 12 in a nicely designed box vs 2 12s in a crappy box the single 12 could be louder
